The Musicians

Karen studied music at Bath University, Welsh College of Music and Guildhall School of Music.

At home in all musical genres her credits include Grace Jones, Ute Lemper, Willard White, Martin Taylor, Tim Garland, Mike Westbrook, The Nash Ensemble, Ice Breaker Opera North, BBC Philharmonic, the RPO,  LSO,  WNO, Royal Opera House, Ballet Rambert and the Strictly Come Dancing live band.

She has produced four CDs of her own compositions and arrangements.

As a saxophone player she was a member of the all female saxophone quartet 'The Fairer Sax' who appeared on television and radio and at festivals all over the world.

Karen writes music for saxophone, accordion and various other ensembles and her music is published by Boosey & Hawkes, June Emerson, Saxtet Publications, Music Sales, Trinity/Guildhall and Gumbles publications. Her composition for solo accordion "In the Ballroom with the Rope" took first prize at the London Accordion Festival, Composition Competition, 2001.

Andy studied clarinet and saxophone at Birmingham Conservatoire. He played with and ran Saxtet for nearly twenty years performing their repertoire of self composed and arranged material all over the world.  

Andy's range of musical interests is very wide but his musical life now revolves mostly around jazz. He performs regularly with the Piccadilly Dance Orchestra, various Mike Westbrook projects and with Karen Street both as a duo and in her drumless quartet Streetworks. He also performs regularly with Flotilla, a saxophone consort performing and commissioning new compositions.

Andy teaches at Birmingham Conservatoire and Wells Cathedral School.  He has given masterclasses and workshops at Royal College of Music, Trinity Laban, Leeds College of Music and Chetham’s School of Music.

As a soloist, song accompanist, chamber musician and orchestral pianist, Yshani Perinpanayagam has performed at venues including Wigmore Hall, the Purcell Room, Queen Elizabeth Hall and the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, and at events including the Oxford Lieder Festival and the Soundings Platform for Contemporary Music.

Yshani is pianist of the Del Mar Piano Trio and company pianist of Rambert Dance Company.  She was Music Director for circus troupe Circa at the Barbican and Assistant Music Director for the Royal Opera House west end transfer of Wind in the Willows, featuring CHROMA ensemble. She also performs with Olivier award winning show Showstopper! The Improvised Musical.

Yshani was winner of the 10th Yamaha Birmingham Accompanist of the Year Award.  She is a Samling Artist and former Park Lane Group Artist. Yshani studied at the Royal College of Music and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama under John Barstow, Caroline Palmer and Andrew West.  She is now a member of staff at the Royal College of Music Junior Department, teaching Musicianship and Composition.
